The Art of Democracy

22 N. Huron St. Ypsilanti, MI

This new exhibit is part two of a project that began last year at ArtPrize 2025 in Grand Rapids. In this second invitational exhibition, fourteen Michigan artists, working in a variety of media, again speak out for social justice, civic engagement and the vital role of democracy in our times. The exhibit will run from April 25 through May 15 and will also feature free public programs—music, poetry, storytelling and theater—related to the theme.

San’s wife, Brenda, who exhibited in ArtPrize 2025 as part of this project, will again be one of the featured artists, and the free public programs will include a GEMILY concert of protest songs, Laz and Jennifer Burd will lead a Haiku Writing workshop, and Emily will be part of a Spinning Dot Theatre Company table reading.

For gallery hours and more details about the exhibit, the artists, and all the programs, please visit 22North.org (The website is under construction now so it may be a few days before all the info is available on it.)
