Laz will join poet and journalist Jennifer Burd in a presentation of "A Great Need: Putting a Face on Homelessness in Our Communities." The program combines dramatic reading, music, and photography to present moments from inside a local soup-kitchen community. It includes selections from Jennifer's book of creative prose, Daily Bread: A Portrait of Homeless Men & Women of Lenawee County, Michigan, and photographs by local photographer Lad Strayer, who illustrated the book. Laz will provide musical accompaniment to the readings and will also perform original songs addressing this theme.

"Drop the Knife: A Midlife Coming-of-Age Tale"
College Theatre in the Crane Liberal Arts Bldg, Washtenaw Community College, Ann Arbor
Laz (fiddle, mandolin, pennywhistle, panpipes) will be joining Lori Fithian (percussion) and Eric Fithian (bass) in accompanying their good friend and fellow musician Jeanne Mackey, in her performance piece — "Drop the Knife: A Midlife Coming-of-Age Tale". Jeanne has written some wonderful songs, and tells amazing stories of self-discovery in the high desert of the Eastern Sierras and her ancestral home in Ireland.
$15 general admission, $10 for students and seniors.

The Poetry of Jiri Orten

Laz will join translator Lyn Coffin in her presentation on the life and work of Holocaust era Czechoslovakian poet Jiri Orten. Lyn Coffin's translations of Orten's poems have been praised by Edward Hirsch, Sam Hamill and Joseph Brodsky, and have recently been released in a book titled "White Picture." Laz has set to music a number of these powerful poems, and will sing them at this event.

The fourth annual "For Pete's Sake!" concert honoring Pete Seeger, this time on the actual date of his 93nd birthday. As in the past, the concert will again be a benefit for the Ark; it feels fitting, as we celebrate the life of a man whom Bruce Springsteen has called "the grandfather of American folk music," to honor and support a folk music institution that has brought such great music to our community for nearly 50 years. We'll be joined by San's daughter Emily Rose, Dick Siegel, Chris Buhalis, Sally Potter, Paul Tinkerhess, and Mustard's Retreat.
